George Emlen and Noel Paul Stookey will offer songwriting techniques in a group setting to aspiring songwriters of all levels and genres. The class will meet from 2 to 5pm on Thursday, October 24, and reconvene from 2 to 5 pm on Friday, October 25. The two-day format will allow participants to work on their material overnight. If you only have a melody, we'll help you find a lyric. If you only have a lyric, we'll help you find a melody. Bring your ideas! Class size is limited, so sign up early.
Best known as “Paul” of the multi-platinum-selling group Peter, Paul & Mary—and for his Billboard top-30 recording of “The Wedding Song”—Noel Paul Stookey has recorded over 50 albums, both as part of the legendary trio and as a soloist. His newest compositions, including "Jean Claude" and "In These Times," continue to address a wide range of spiritual, political, and environmental issues.
George Emlen is known for his diverse and celebrated career as a musician of many talents: choral conductor, composer, arranger, song leader, and music educator. For 35 years he was the music director of REVELS, the Boston-based, national organization widely acclaimed for its joyful musical and theatrical performances that honor cultural traditions around the world. Since 1974 he has conducted and taught extensively throughout New England. Currently, he conducts the December performance of Handel’s Messiah for Blue Hill Bach. He also teaches Songcrafting and Circlesinging at Bagaduce Music.
