A seasonal resident of East Blue Hill, Jonathan Lethem has set his most recent novel, The Arrest (out Nov. 10) in a coastal Maine town inspired by the Blue Hill Peninsula. He’ll be discussing the challenges and opportunities of writing fiction set in Maine with Portland novelist Kate Christensen. The Arrest takes place after a mysterious catastrophe that leaves much of modern technology nonfunctional. One-time Hollywood screenwriter Sandy Duplessis lands in rural Maine, where he helps his sister with her organic farm. That is, until his one-time writing partner and full-time nemesis arrives in town, aboard a most extraordinary vehicle.
Jonathan Lethem is the New York Times bestselling author of ten novels, including The Fortress of Solitude and Motherless Brooklyn, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award. He currently teaches creative writing at Pomona College in California.
Kate Christensen is the author of seven novels, including The Great Man, winner of the 2008 PEN/Faulkner Award, and two food-centric memoirs, Blue Plate Special and How to Cook a Moose, which won the 2016 Maine Literary Award for Memoir.
